The Block Island Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department preserves and protects life and property from fires and provides assistance in medical emergencies.

Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to your community and is very rewarding.  We have approximately 60 members, 24 of them licensed EMTs.

To become a member of the BIVFRD, you need to attend two meetings, which are held the second Monday of every month.  Your name will be accepted as a candidate with a thirty day waiting period.  After the thirty days, you will be voted in.

To volunteer as an active EMT, you must show that the state you are certified in has reciprocity with Rhode Island.

There is no fee to become a member.
